Visitor Record (Visitor Extension)

A Visitor Record It is a document that a Border Protection Officer (CBSA) can issue to you to extend or restrict your stay in Canada, or that an Immigration Officer (IRCC) can issue to you if they approve your application to extend your stay or restore your status.

• You need to apply for a Visitor Record when:
  • You arrive at a Canadian port of entry for the first time and know you wish to stay for more than 6 months; or
  • You're in Canada and decide you want to stay longer.

• It is a separate document (not included in the passport). 📄

• Include an expiration date for your stay in Canada (the date you must leave Canada by). 📆

• It doesn't guarantee that you'll be able to leave and re-enter Canada (for that, you may need a valid entry document, such as a visitor visa or eTA).

You must apply for a Visitor Record before your current status expires.
