Sponsorship or Family Sponsorship

Canada's Family Sponsorship Programs allow Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor certain family members for permanent residency.

The sponsorship process varies depending on the type of family member you wish to sponsor, but in general, the sponsor must demonstrate that he or she can financially care for his or her relatives.

Types of Sponsorship or Family Sponsorship โœ…

  • Sponsorship of a spouse or common-law partner (free union): allows you to sponsor your husband/wife or common-law partner.
  • Sponsorship of dependent children: allows you to sponsor your children under 22 years of age (or older if they are medically dependent).
  • Sponsorship of parents and grandparents: allows you to sponsor your parents or grandparents to live permanently in Canada.
  • Sponsorship of Orphaned Siblings, Nephews or Grandchildren: allows you to sponsor an orphaned relative (under 18 years of age, who has lost both parents and has no other legal guardian, and is single).
  • Lone Family Member Sponsorship: If the sponsor does not have any living relatives listed above who can be sponsored, nor any living relatives who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, then the sponsor may sponsor any relative (by blood or adoption), regardless of their age or relationship.

*Specific requirements apply to each type of sponsorship. ๐Ÿ“‹
