Study Permit

DLIs are institutions approved by the Government of Canada to receive international students.

Most international students need a Study Permit if their program lasts more than 6 months.

• Be enrolled in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) 📚 Check the list of DLIs

• Demonstrate sufficient funds to cover tuition, living and travel expenses ✈️. If you are traveling with other family members, you must also demonstrate that you have the necessary resources to cover their living expenses.

• Get a police certificate and/or medical examination (if necessary). ‍👮‍♂️🏥

• Demonstrate that you have strong ties to your home country and that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay. 🔙

You may be able to stay and work in Canada after you graduate. You can check here if the DLI you choose offers PGWP-eligible programs.

Under certain requirements, your spouse or common-law partner may be able to come to Canada with you on an Open Work Permit for the duration of your studies.

A Study Permit is not a visa, which means that it does not allow travel to Canada. To enter the country, a Visitor Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required. However, if a Study Permit is applied for from outside Canada, approval of the Study Permit will also include approval of a Visitor Visa.
